frequently asked questions
When should I book my maternity shoot?
To get the most out of your bump photo shoot, it's best to wait until you're at least 32 weeks pregnant to get the maximum bump-impact. Booking wise, it's best to get in touch when you're in your second trimester to ensure you can book the date that works best for you. You're welcome to include your partner and the older siblings if you would like to.
When should I book my newborn shoot?
The very best time to photograph a new baby is within the first 12 days after their birth. During this time, your baby will still be very sleepy and still curled up in that adorable foetal position. When they are 2 weeks old, they begin to wake for longer periods, which can make it harder to get the perfect photo. If you've already missed that two week window, the best time to photograph your baby professionally is between 6-9 months. At this stage, your baby will be able to sit up, or grab their little feet and smile for the camera. Simply not to be missed.
What happens at the shoot?
Come along to my private studio space at my home in Wimborne. I'll make us a cup of tea and we can chat about the type of photos you'd like to have taken. The length of time the shoot takes depends on the type of photo shoot and the subject. A maternity shoot can take anything from one to two hours in total in the studio, but a bit longer if you'd like to go out on location. A newborn shoot can take anything up to three hours, given that we may have to wait for your baby to fall asleep, or break for milk feeds or mummy cuddles - and the occasional costume change due to a pooped on blanket or prop!
I like to make sure my clients feel really comfortable during the shoot, as the more relaxed you are, the more beautiful your photographs will be, so please feel free to bring your favourite music along to play whilst we work, or bring a friend, partner along for moral support. Whatever makes you feel more relaxed and happy.
