Being a new mum is wonderful. It's also knackering! For the first few weeks and months, your newborn is designed to wake you up every 3 hours for a feed, and sometimes when they're growing (or whenever they feel like it) they'll cluster feed all night long, giving you ZERO sleep at night. Here are a few tips I wish someone had shared with me before I had my first baby.

1. Let him fuss a little bit for a little while... I remember rushing over to the Moses Basket the moment I heard my baby make any sound. At the first sign of any distress (because crying mean...

IT’S AUTUMN OUTSIDE! What is with all this rain in June? It feels just like the start of autumn. And it's making me reminisce. Have you got a child starting school for the first time this September?
.

This is my oldest baby. He’s six and a half. I went into his school earlier in the week to make teas and coffees for the new starter’s parents. I could so vividly remember how I felt being in their position. My baby, at the time attending nursery, and still in pull-up’s at night, and only recently upgraded from his toddler bed to a big boy bed, was now exp...

I absolutely love children. Always have. I’m a newborn and baby photographer in my hometown in Dorset, and this career path was sort of inevitable for me, given the fact that I loved two things more than anything else. Babies of all ages, and taking lots of photos.

Becoming a mum was always on my ultimate ‘to-do’ list. Anyone who knew me as a teen and a twenty-something was just waiting for the inevitable pregnancy announcement. I met my now husband, Ben when I was 18, fell in love in an instant, and we’ve been together ever since. We both love kids. We knew...

Take a look at little baby Georgia, totally rocking her first birthday photo shoot. This little angel was an absolute joy to work with. Just look at the excitement on her little face. She had so much fun. She was more tentative with her cake than her mummy was expecting her to be, but I thought it was cute, and showed her personality, that she didn't want to smash it to pieces, but delicately prod it with her chubby fingers and lick the icing from her little hands! It was too adorable to watch her. She certainly relaxed when it was time to have her splash ses...

I'm so excited to announce my newest project - The Wimborne Baby Show! As a Wimborne mummy and a Wimborne small business, it gives me so much pleasure to create something new and exciting for other Wimborne and Dorset mums centring around parenting in our lovely little community.

The Wimborne Baby Show will be taking place at The Allendale Centre in Wimborne, Dorset, on Sunday the 22nd of September 2019. It will be a baby and toddler centred event, showcasing local suppliers and service providers in the Wimborne area. We've got baby photographers, baby-shower...

It's a question I am asked very frequently, exactly when should I book my newborn photo shoot, and how old should the baby be?  Newborn photography is extremely time sensitive. If you're hoping to achieve that sleepy, curled up, tiny newborn look in your photographs, and you'd like your photographer to change your sleepy baby into new blankets and lift them into lots of poses and props, you'll need to have the photographs taken within the first three weeks of your baby's life, and ideally, within the first 14 days. After this, your baby will stay awake for lo...

Remember the hideous family photos of old? Let's all wear matching flannel shirts and smile at the camera against a vinyl backdrop, printed with patchy clouds... It's the highlight of mum's year, and usually dad's and teens are dragged along for the ride, and bribed to force a smile (that never looks genuine) - But fear not, families! Family photo sessions are NOT what they used to be. I promise. I do all my family photo sessions outdoors in the beautiful Dorset countryside. They look far more natural, and I get much more genuine smiles and poses out of even...

It's a relatively modern idea, started by a cake lover (I have no idea who... can anyone tell me?) but it's caught on, and it's so obvious to see why.

Cake Smash shoots are increasingly popular for clients wanting first birthday photos of their little ones. I adore cake smash photos, but I also make sure I take a series of classic portraits during the session. Call me old fashioned, but nothing compares to a classic head and shoulders baby portrait. It's timeless, and won't ever date.

Cake smash sessions take around 90 minutes. We start with a plain bac...

You're looking for someone to take a professional photographs of your precious newborn baby, but you're not too fussed about having a huge gallery full of images with fancy props and costume changes - just a few really perfect images of your little one, to capture this fleeting moment, to share with family and friends... Sound like you? I've got the perfect solution. I've had a little new year splurge, and I've added some gorgeous new fabrics, blankets, bonnets, wraps and headbands to my studio stash and I am dying to try them out, So I'm putting together a b...

I can remember packing my hospital bag when I hit the 24 week mark with my first baby. I felt that any earlier than this was 'tempting fate', but my midwife had told me that 24 weeks was sort of a safety zone, of sorts, when my baby stood a great chance of thriving if he came at any point from there on. As a first timer, I really had no idea what to pack. How long was I likely to be in the hospital for? Do people actually get dressed after giving birth or do they live in pyjamas for a week? (as I fully intended to if I could get away with it!) What should I p...
